Dear Mr. Hardy:

In your letter of Jan. 5, 2011, you responded to my FOIA request no. 1159550-000 by asking for more information on the subject under review.

I had asked for a complete and thorough search of all filing systems and locations for all records maintained by your agency pertaining to and/or captioned:

The Rational Observer

This college newspaper was published by the FBI sometime between 1965 and 1975 and distributed by the FBI at American University in Washington, DC. Its existence is referred to in the opinion of a federal civil rights lawsuit (Hobson v. Wilson).

I also requested that the material be released to me in an electronic form on CD-ROM.

I have attached copies of parts of two legal opinions in the Hobson case. I circled the material relevant to my request. I hope this additional information helps you find these records. If not, I plan to appeal to the Director, Office of Information Policy, U. S. Department of Justice.

Sincerely,

Ivan Greenberg
